In response to the looming threat of heavy rainfall, the Sindh government on Thursday taking proactive measures announced the closure of schools across the province for tomorrow, Friday.
The decision comes amidst forecasts of inclement weather, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department warning of rain, windstorms, and the possibility of isolated hailstorms between February 29 and March 2.
The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department issued a notification, declaring the cancellation of all evening classes in both private and public schools. This move aims to ensure the safety of students and staff in light of the anticipated adverse weather conditions.
In addition to the school closures, the Sindh government has declared a rain emergency across the province. Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab Siddiqui, in a statement, stressed the importance of precautionary measures and announced that offices in Karachi would operate for only half a day on Friday.
The decision, Siddiqui stated, was made to minimise potential risks and inconvenience to citizens.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah chaired a meeting to address the impending weather challenges and announced the activation of a comprehensive rain emergency plan. Local bodies, administrations, and hospitals have been placed on high alert to respond effectively to any emergencies that may arise.
