Tensions rise as the once-promising alliance between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and the Sunni Ittehad Council faces a severe setback.
The cracks within the coalition widened following statement by PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat, sparking outrage from the Sunni Ittehad Council's Chairman Hamid Raza.
In a recent interview to a private news cahnnel, Marwat openly criticised the alliance with the Sunni Ittehad Council, labeling it a mistake.
He disclosed that PTI had initially been directed by PTI's Founding Chairman Imran Khan to pursue unity with the Shirani group, but abruptly shifted focus to Hamid Raza's party.
Marwat expressed regret, indicating that an unconditional alliance with the Shirani group could have been secured without compromising PTI's electoral symbol and reserved seats.
The fallout from Marwat's statement was immediate, as Hamid Raza opted to boycott PTI's Islamophobia conference in Islamabad.
Despite receiving an invitation to attend and share his views, Raza's absence underscored the growing discord between the two parties.
Sources within PTI revealed that Marwat's remarks have deeply offended Hamid Raza, leading to a deadlock in their partnership. The situation escalated further following a meeting between the Sunni Ittehad Council and PTI's core committee, where Raza raised suspicions about PTI's intentions.
In response, Hamid Raza took to social media platform X to express his discontent, urging PTI members to resolve their internal conflicts privately. He reaffirmed his allegiance to Imran Khan but cautioned against airing grievances in public, emphasising the importance of unity.
He urged PTI top brass to refrain from creating unnecessary turmoil and abide by Imran Khan's leadership.
