Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) senior leader Aminul Haque welcomed on Thursday the announcement of the election date by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Mr Haque expressed the party's demand for a level playing field, emphasising the need to appoint officers based on merit.
Additionally, he conveyed the party's confidence in the caretaker Sindh chief minister.
– Whopping increase in petroleum prices –
The MQM-P condemned on Saturday the whopping increase in petroleum prices.
The MQM-P Rabita Committee said, "The caretaker government is mounting pressure on the masses instead of decreasing its own expenses. The exorbitant prices of petroleum products will also make it extremely difficult for the people to get the basic amenities of life."
"People are compelled to commit suicide as they are facing severe economic hardships. It is becoming difficult for salaried people to fulfil their basic needs," said the MQM-P.
The MQM-P rued, "It is becoming difficult to endure the red-hot inflation as the poor segment of society is struggling deeply."
– ECP announces polls –
The electoral watchdog today announced the date for the general elections in the country.
According to the recent announcement by the Election Commission, the eagerly awaited general elections are scheduled to take place in the last week of January.
The Election Commission revealed that the initial list of constituencies will be unveiled on September 27, 2023, with the final and definitive list set to be released on November 30.
This approach will allow for ample time to address any objections and incorporate valuable suggestions pertaining to the constituencies, culminating in the presentation of the finalized list on November 30.
