The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to take action against its members of the National and provincial assemblies who have switched their allegiances.
The party announced its intention to file references against more than 20 lawmakers who changed their loyalties.
Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly, Malik Ahmad Bhachar of the Sunni Ittehad Council, emphasized the importance of maintaining political integrity and adherence to party principles. He asserted that changing political loyalties not only undermines the democratic process but also goes against the spirit of representation.
The references, according to Bhachar, will be formally submitted to the speakers of the respective assemblies. However, he made it clear that if the speakers fail to forward the references for further action, the matter will be taken up with the judiciary for intervention.
"An inquiry has been launched, and we are committed to exposing those who engage in opportunistic political manoeuvers by changing their loyalties," declared the opposition leader.
The decision to take action against turncoat lawmakers cites the principles outlined in articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution, which stipulate the qualifications and disqualifications for members of the National and provincial assembly.
According to Bhachar, those who switch their loyalties are not eligible for membership in the assemblies under these constitutional provisions.
