On the occasion of Pakistan Day, a ceremony for awarding the highest civil honours to those who have rendered outstanding services to the country was held at the President House on Saturday.
In recognition of their outstanding services, President Asif Ali Zardari awarded the Nishan-i-Imtiaz to senior politician Raja Zafarul Haq, former Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, former caretaker finance minister Dr Shamshad Akhtar, Air Marshal (retd) Najeeb Akhtar, and late Muhammad Hafeez Qureshi posthumously for services to nuclear sciences. The latter's award was received by his widow Farida Hafeez.

Similarly, Salahuddin Siddiqui for his services in the field of hockey, and Iftikhar Hussain Arif for his valuable services in the field of literature and poetry, were awarded the Nishan-i-Imtiaz.
The president also awarded the Hilal-i-Shujaat to former Punjab police chief Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera.
Former Punjab chief secretary Nasir Muhammad Khosa received the Hilal-i-Imtiaz, and the late Brig Syed Sarfaraz Ali was posthumously rewarded and his award was received by his daughter Ayesha Adnan Azim.
Dr. Muhammad Amjad Saqib, founder of Akhuwat, also received Hilal-i-Imtiaz in recognition of his services in the field of social services. The Hilal-i-Imtiaz conferred upon the late former federal minister for religious affairs Mufti Abdul Shakoor was received by his son.
President Asif Ali Zardari also awarded the Hilal-i-Imtiaz to former bureaucrat Fawad Hasan Fawad, former federal law secretary Raja Naeem Akhtar, Captain (retd) Zahid Saeed, Sitbin Fazal Haleem, Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Lt Gen (retd) Muhammad Akram Khan, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Dr. Muhammad Jahanzeb. Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, former State Bank of Pakistan governor Tariq Bajwa, Tariq Mehmood Pasha, Javed Aslam, and Ahmed Irfan Aslam.
Similarly, Punjab IGP Dr. Usman Anwar, Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi President Muhammad Ahmad Shah, fashion designer Mahmood Ahmed Tahir Bhatti, poet Prof. Anwar Masood, Brig Atif Rafiq, Shahid Khan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, while in the field of science Prof. Dr. Shahid Mehmood Baig, Prof. Dr. Iqar Ahmad Khan, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Umar, Prof. Dr. Adil Najam, the late journalist Zahid Malik, Bilal Siddique Kamiana, and Tanveer Ahmed were also awarded Hilal-i-Imtiaz for their services.
President Asif Ali Zardari conferred the Hilal-i-Quaid-e-Azam upon Saudi Development Fund Chief Executive Officer Sultan bin Abdul Rahman Al Murshid, Asian Development Bank Country Director Yong Yi, Qatar Fund for Development Director General Khalafia Jassim Al-Kwari, and a former representative of the United Nations Development Program For Pakistan.
The president also awarded Sultan Bin Abdul Rehman the Hilal-i-Quaid-e-Azam for his national services, while police officer Akhtar Hayat Khan and Sepoy Muhammad Younis Shaheed were awarded Sitara-i-Shujaat.
