Arsenal's captain, Martin Odegaard, has committed his future to the club by penning a fresh five-year contract, solidifying his place among the Gunners' core of long-term talents.
This 24-year-old midfielder joins the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and William Saliba in extending his stay with the club.
Odegaard, formerly of Real Madrid, showcased his prowess by netting 15 Premier League goals and delivering seven assists, a significant contribution that helped Arsenal secure a second-place finish behind Manchester City in the previous season. This season, he has already scored three goals in various competitions.
The Norwegian international expressed his contentment with the decision, stating, "It was an effortless choice for me." He emphasised his deep connection with the club, dating back to his loan arrival in January 2021.
He added, "Having moved around frequently during loan spells, I was eager to find a place where I could settle and truly call home."
Odegaard attributed the wave of player contract extensions to the club's positive trajectory under the leadership of manager Mikel Arteta. He noted, "What we're achieving here is truly exceptional. Players see the manager's vision, the club's progress, and the strong bond we now share with our fans. Joining this journey is a no-brainer for players, especially with the exciting young talent around."
Manager Arteta welcomed the news, declaring, "It's fantastic news for Arsenal. I'm genuinely delighted for Martin; he deserves this extension. It's a testament to the fact that there are various paths to success. Ultimately, it's about finding a place where you feel at home, valued, and empowered to express your talents. Martin has discovered that place, where he is respected, cherished, and fully supported in what he does."
Arsenal currently occupies the fourth spot in the Premier League standings, setting the stage for an eagerly anticipated clash against Tottenham at home this Sunday.
