The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was looking to appoint separate coaches for Tests and white-ball games.
According to details, the PCB had sought applications from candidates willing to become coaches until April 15.
The PCB was hopeful that it would reach an agreement with former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten for the white-ball games.
Moreover, it had been expected that the PCB would also reach an agreement with former Australian cricketer Jason Gillespie for Tests.
Earlier it was reported that Pakistan cricketer Babar Azam was expected to return as the T20I captain of the national team.
Sources divulged that the PCB officials had apprised the current T20I captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, of the decision.
Afridi questioned the PCB officials, saying, "Can you tell me the reasons for removing me from the captaincy of the T20I format?"
According to the sources, the PCB officials could not reply to Afridi's question.
The PCB officials said: "It has been decided to appoint Babar Azam as the skipper."
