The inside story of a meeting between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi and team players in Kakul has come to light.
During the meeting, he engaged in dialogue with the players, including a cordial exchange with star bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi. Sources revealed that Naqvi addressed the recent statement issued without proper consultation, admitting it was a mistake.
In response, Shaheen Shah Afridi expressed solidarity, stating, “There is no problem, we are all one. I don't want to talk too much.”
According to sources, the PCB chairman emphasized transparency and merit-based decisions. He reportedly assured the players that selections would be made solely on merit, and “there is no need for dictation from anyone.”
The meeting also addressed the recent appointment of the team captain. He clarified that the decision was made based on recommendations from the selection committee, suggesting a collaborative approach.
Encouraging dedication and hard work, Naqvi reportedly stressed the importance of the training camp for the players' fitness and overall performance.
Addressing the players, he praised their dedication, stating, "You all are our pride. Work hard on training and fitness in the camp."
The PCB chairman also clarified the role of the selection committee, emphasizing, "All the powers for the selection of the team have been given to the selection committee."
Furthermore, he announced arrangements with two foreign coaches to provide better guidance to the players, indicating that their appointment would be finalized soon.
Highlighting the cricket board's role, Naqvi reiterated, "The work of the cricket board is to provide facilities to the players. They have to perform inside the field."
