Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz-led Punjab government announced on Sunday a comprehensive ban on the use of plastic bags across the province.
This significant step was unveiled following a high-level meeting chaired by Senior Punjab Minister Maryyium Aurangzeb.
Speaking on behalf of the government, Senior Minister Marryiumm Aurangzeb declared that the ban on plastic bags would come into effect from June 6.
This move aligns with the broader vision set forth by Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, who has set a deadline of June 30 to initiate crucial measures to mitigate waste, enhance air quality, and augment plantation efforts.
Furthermore, the government is taking proactive steps to address vehicular emissions by making fitness certificates mandatory for all vehicles. Regular inspections, to be conducted on an annual basis, will ensure compliance with environmental standards.
In a bid to promote renewable energy sources, all government buildings will transition to solar energy, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, added the minister
Moreover, there will be a concerted effort to stimulate local production of solar panels, fostering a sustainable ecosystem for renewable energy technologies within the province. To bolster green spaces, a campaign to plant 20,000 trees along the roads of Lahore is set to be completed, Marriyum added.
