National Accountability Bureau (NAB) gave a clean chit to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the reference related to Toshakhana vehicles.
Judge Nasir Javed Rana heard the reference against President Asif Zardari, former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif, Yusuf Raza Gilani, and others in the Accountability Court of Islamabad regarding the vehicles of Toshakhana.
Nawaz Sharif's lawyer Rana Muhammad Irfan while Arshad Tabreez Advocate appeared before the court on behalf of President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman of Omni Group Anwar Majeed.
During the proceedings, the anti-graft watchdog submitted a report to the court.
According to the report, NAB said that in the year 1997, the car gifted to Nawaz Sharif by the government of Saudi Arabia was deposited in Toshakhana and later the gift car was included in the federal transport pool.
According to the report, Nawaz Sharif bought the car not from the Toshakhana but from the Federal Transport Pool, Nawaz Sharif did not pay the price of the car from a fake bank account, when Nawaz Sharif received the car as a gift, he deposited the car in the Toshakhana.
NAB has pleaded in the report that the court can acquit Nawaz Sharif from the Toshakhana reference.
“If the court wants, ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif can be acquitted from the case,” NAB pleaded.
On the other hand, Arshad Tabriz, the lawyer of the President of the State, took the position that Asif Ali Zardari has presidential immunity for 5five years and the case could not go on the co-accused Abdul Ghani Majeed and Anwar Majeed.
Later, the accountability court adjourned the hearing of the case till May 7.
It should be noted that according to the reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the Accountability Court, Yousaf Raza Gilani was accused of illegally allotting vehicles to Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Zardari and Muslim League (N) leader Nawaz Sharif.
