All-round Hayley Matthews powered the West Indies Women to a lopsided victory by 113 runs against the Pakistan women in the first ODI in Karachi on Thursday.
– PAKISTAN WOMEN'S INNINGS –
Chasing a target of 270, the Pakistan women were bundled out for 156 in the 36th over. With the exception of Tuba Hassan (25), Muneeba Ali (22) and Najiha Alvi (20), none of the Pakistan batters could show any significant resistance with the bat.
After proving her batting prowess, skipper Hayley (3-17) also spearheaded the bowling department and went on to scoop up three wickets. Hayley bagged the player of the match award due to her all-round excellence.
Afy Fletcher (2-19) and Zaida James (2-14) picked up two wickets apiece. Shamilia Connell (1-19) and Chinelle Henry (1-30) took a scalp each.
– WEST INDIES WOMEN'S INNINGS –
Captain Hayley Matthews’ unbeaten and circumspect 150-ball 140 powered the West Indies Women to 269-8 against the Pakistan Women.
After opting to bat first, the visitors lost their first wicket on just 1, when Rashada Williams was undone by Sadia Iqbal on 7-ball 1.
But it was an able partnership between Hayley Matthews and Shemaine Campbelle that provided impetus to the West Indian innings.
Hayley had whacked 15 boundaries and one six in a brilliant knock.
Shemaine looked good for her 71-ball 45, lacing with four boundaries before she was trapped by Tuba Hassan.
For the Pakistan women, Sadia Iqbal (2-38) and Tuba Hassan (2-48) had bagged two wickets apiece.
Nida Dar (1-43) and Nashra Sandhu (1-51) took a scalp each.
