The Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AEMEND) has elected its new office bearers for the 2024-2026 term.
In a general body meeting, Azhar Abbas of Geo News was elected as President, while Tariq Mehmood of Samaa TV was elected as Secretary General.
Other elected officials include Ayaz Khan of Express News as Senior Vice President, Mohammad Usman of Neo News as Vice President, Rihan Ahmed of Hum News and Mian Tahir of 24 News as Joint Secretaries. Shahab Mehmood will serve as Finance Secretary.
The Executive Committee also includes members Mubarak Ali, Owais Iqbal, Muhammad Naushad, Ali Kamran Lashari, Mohsin Raza, Masoom Rizvi, Imad Yusuf, and Zahid Mazhar.
During the meeting, various resolutions were also passed, aiming to promote the welfare of electronic media editors and news directors in Pakistan.
AEMEND, a representative body of electronic media professionals, plays a crucial role in shaping the country's media landscape. The newly elected office bearers are expected to work towards promoting ethical journalism, ensuring press freedom, and fostering a supportive environment for media professionals.
PM, Info Minister felicitate newly-elected AEMEND officials
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has congratulated the newly elected officials of Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors.
In his congratulatory message, the Prime Minister expressed his good wishes for them.
The Prime Minister said the role of editors and news directors is very crucial for promoting positive journalism in the country.
He expressed hope that the newly elected officials will play their full role in promoting freedom of expression, stability of democracy and highlighting social issues.
Meanwhile, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has congratulated the newly elected members of Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors.
In his congratulatory message today, the Minister said the department of Editors and News Directors is very important and sensitive component of broadcasting journalism.
He expressed hope that the newly elected members of AEMEND will play their due role to combat fake news.
