West Ham United announced the appointment of former Real Madrid and Spain manager Julen Lopetegui as their new head coach on Thursday.
Lopetegui, 57, who previously managed Wolverhampton Wanderers, will start his tenure at the London Stadium on July 1, following David Moyes' exit at the end of the season.
Having been without a club since his departure from Wolves just before the recently concluded Premier League season, Lopetegui expressed his enthusiasm for the new challenge. "We came here with the idea and the thought of making a big, big noise," he said. "That's why we came here, and we are excited by this challenge. Of course, we are going to do our best to help the club and the team achieve their goals. I assure the fans that they are going to be key to all our achievements."
David Sullivan, West Ham's joint-chairman, highlighted the positive outlook of Lopetegui’s arrival, stating that his appointment would "ensure a strong opportunity to build on the positive progress made in recent seasons." The Hammers concluded the 2023–24 Premier League season in ninth place, aiming for further success under their new leadership.
