Tennis champion Novak Djokovic and football star Gareth Bale teamed up for a celebrity golf match on the Ryder Cup course, relishing the "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
Djokovic and Bale, under the leadership of Ryder Cup legend Colin Montgomerie, emerged victorious against Corey Pavin's team in the friendly competition.
"It's a great honour. I want to thank the Ryder Cup for giving me this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity... It's a unique experience," expressed Djokovic, who recently clinched his record-tying 24th Grand Slam title at the US Open.
One of Djokovic's highlights at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club was a daring drive through the par-four 16th green.
"The crowd made me do it, and I'm really happy they did," Djokovic added. He partnered with disability golf world number one Kipp Popert during the match.
Former footballer Bale, who faced criticism from fans for his golf outings during his Real Madrid days, secured a victory in his match alongside Montgomerie against fellow 2010 Ryder Cup captain Pavin and AC Milan legend Andriy Shevchenko.
"Playing golf is similar to taking a free kick or penalty. I was a free-kick taker. So it definitely helps," commented Bale.
The celebrity match also featured actor Kathryn Newton, former Super Bowl champion Victor Cruz, and Formula One driver Carlos Sainz.
