Pakistan on Wednesday firmly rejected India’s objections to references made to Jammu and Kashmir in the Pakistan-China joint statement issued on June 8 and reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir is internationally recognized as a disputed territory.
In response to media inquiries regarding the statement from India’s Ministry of External Affairs on June 3, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch emphasized that the Kashmir dispute has been on the UN Security Council’s agenda for over seven decades.
“The pertinent Security Council resolutions clearly state that the final resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue will be determined according to the will of the people, expressed through a democratic and impartial plebiscite conducted under the auspices of the United Nations,” the spokesperson reaffirmed.
In light of these facts, the spokesperson declared India’s claims over Jammu and Kashmir to be unfounded and misleading.
“India should refrain from misleading the international community about the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which is a major development project agreed upon by two sovereign nations. Rather than making baseless claims about CPEC, India should promptly implement the relevant UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir,” the spokesperson added.
