In a historic feat, Bangladesh’s premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan etched his name in the annals of cricketing history by becoming the first bowler to claim 50 wickets in the T20 World Cup.
The record-breaking achievement came during a Super 8 Group 1 clash against India at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Saturday.
Shakib, known for his exceptional all-round abilities, reached the milestone by dismissing Indian skipper Rohit Sharma in the fourth over of India's innings. The crucial breakthrough not only underlined Shakib's prowess with the ball but also his significance in Bangladesh's T20 setup.
As of this historic moment, Shakib leads the list of all-time wicket-takers in T20 World Cups with 50 wickets. He is followed by Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi with 39 wickets, Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga with 38, Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga with 37, and Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal with 36.
Shakib’s illustrious T20I career also sees him as the second-highest wicket-taker in all T20 Internationals, boasting 148 wickets in 128 matches. He trails only New Zealand’s Tim Southee, who has 164 wickets to his name.
