In the past two days, chicken prices have dropped significantly. On Sunday, the price saw a reduction of Rs20 per kilogramme, followed by a further decline of Rs24 per kilogramme today.
Consequently, the current price of chicken meat stands at Rs394 per kilogramme in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and other cities across the province.
Just a day earlier, on June 23, the price of chicken was set at Rs418 per kilogramme. The decrease highlights the fluctuating nature of poultry prices during festive periods when consumer preferences shift towards other types of meat.
In addition to the decrease in chicken prices, the rate for eggs has been fixed at Rs250 per dozen, providing some respite to consumers amidst rising costs of other food items.
The significant drop in poultry prices is attributed to the reduced consumption of chicken as people prefer mutton and beef for their Eidul Adha celebrations. This trend is expected to continue in the immediate aftermath of the festival as well.
