A terrorist attack on a police checkpost in Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa resulted in the martyrdom of a policeman and a Frontier Constabulary (FC) official, according to local authorities.
The district police officer (DPO) reported that the exchange of fire occurred when terrorists launched an assault on the Takhta Beg check post, firing two rocket launchers. The attack led to a fierce gun battle between the terrorists and the security forces stationed at the post.
Despite the response by the police and FC personnel, the terrorists managed to escape in the chaos of the retaliatory action.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend the fleeing terrorists.
The loss of the two security officials has been met with grief and anger from the local community and law enforcement agencies. Both the policeman and the FC official have been hailed as heroes who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of martyred FC soldier Shahzad and policeman Ijaz in thwarting the terrorist attack and crushing their evil intentions.
"Shahzad and Ijaz sacrficed their lives in foiling the terrorist attack. We are proud of the bravery of the two martyred youths. The nation salutes the two martyrs who fought bravely," Naqvi added.
He further said Pakistan was determined to completely eliminate the scourge of terrorism through unity and consensus. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police and FC officers and soldiers have played the role of vanguards in the war against terrorism, he maintained.
