TikTok, the popular social media platform, has recently taken extensive measures to supposedly enforce a safe and positive online environment with the release of its Community Guidelines Enforcement Report for the first quarter of 2024.
The platform says it removed over 20 million videos posted by Pakistani users in the first quarter of this year.
In those three months, the report stated, TikTok deleted a staggering over 22.07 million videos originating from Pakistan, citing violations of its community guidelines. According to the TikTok administration, 93.9% of these videos were removed within 24 hours of being uploaded, underscoring the platform's commitment to prompt enforcement.
Globally, TikTok has removed approximately 170 million videos from January to March 2024 for similar guideline infractions, reflecting its stringent approach towards content moderation and user safety across different regions and cultures.
These actions, it said, were aimed at upholding community standards, with approximately 0.9% of all uploaded videos being identified as violating TikTok's guidelines. Of the total removed videos, 129,335,793 were detected and removed through automated technologies, while 6,042,287 videos were subsequently reinstated following further review.
In an effort to protect young users, TikTok also addressed the issue of underage accounts. It reported the deletion of 21.63 million accounts belonging to children under the age of 13, in accordance with international regulations and its own policies regarding child safety online.
The TikTok administration said its measures highlight the platform's response to growing concerns over the spread of inappropriate or harmful content. As one of the most widely used social media platforms globally, TikTok's influence on digital culture and societal norms cannot be overstated.
"Tik Tok is committed to promoting a safe, positive online environment in Pakistan," the administration said, adding the management is committed to ensuring a safe platform for the global community.
