The prices of chicken meat have surged significantly in Lahore and other major cities of Punjab, nearing an unprecedented Rs485 per kilogram.
The price hike comes amid a rise in demand, almost a month after Eid, a period typically characterized by higher consumption of other meats.
According to data shared by local traders, the price of broiler chicken meat has risen to Rs483 per kilogram. In just the last three days, the price of broiler chicken meat has surged by Rs99 per kilogram.
The increase in prices is attributed to a combination of factors including the seasonal rise in demand and supply chain disruptions. Traders have noted that the demand for chicken meat usually increases post-Eid as consumers shift back to their regular dietary preferences after indulging in mutton and beef during the festive period.
Meanwhile, the wholesale price of live broiler chicken has been set at Rs321 per kilogram, with the retail price fixed at Rs333 per kilogram. Despite the surge in chicken prices, the price for eggs has remained stable, holding steady at Rs250 per dozen.
