Torrential rains have swept across several cities in Pakistan in a welcome respite from the summer heat, bringing cool breezes and pleasant weather to the region.
Lahore, Islamabad, Hassanabdal, Kasur, Taxila, Attock, and Jhelum all experienced significant rainfall, with some areas recording particularly high precipitation levels.
Lahore
Lahore has been drenched in a historic monsoon spell, with rainfall crossing 200mm in various parts of the city. This marks the fastest and heaviest rainfall recorded during the current monsoon season, significantly impacting daily life and infrastructure.
Areas such as Gulberg, Kalma Chowk, Liberty Market, Model Town, Garden Town, Faisal Town, Jail Road, Canal Road, Cantt and their adjacent areas experienced consistent rain throughout the day.
The highest rainfall was recorded in Tajpura, with an impressive 242mm, while Samanabad received 135mm, Lakshmi Chowk 130mm, Qartaba Chowk 125mm, Gulberg 103mm, Mughalpura 132mm, Nishtar Town 129mm, Airport 63mm, Chowk Nakhuda 99mm, Paniwala Talab 71mm, Gulshan-e-Ravi 133mm, and Iqbal Town 110mm.
The intermittent rain is expected to continue throughout the day, according to the Met Department.
Islamabad and Rawalpindi
In the capital city of Islamabad, rain with strong winds brought a significant break from the heat. Rainfall continued in the Blue Area, G-6, G-7, and Zero Point. Its twin city of Rawalpindi recorded a total of 12mm rainfall, with Saidpur Village receiving 17mm of rainfall, Golra 16mm and Bhara Kahu 8mm.
During the rainfall, the flow of water in Nullah Leh also remained normal, the Met Department reported.
Hassan Abdal
Hassan Abdal experienced rain accompanied by light thunderstorms and strong winds, making the weather notably pleasant. However, the torrential rains caused lightning outages in several areas.
Kasur
Kasur and its suburbs enjoyed cool winds and pleasant weather as a result of the torrential rain.
Taxila
In Taxila, the rain and cool winds led to a 12-degree Celsius drop in temperature, significantly reducing the intensity of the heat and making the weather more comfortable.
Attock
Attock also experienced rain and cool breezes, which contributed to a pleasant change in weather.
Jhelum
Jhelum saw stormy rain with thunder in the city and surrounding areas. The rain relieved the heat and created a pleasant atmosphere, although it also resulted in a significant drop in temperature. The low-lying areas were inundated and electricity supply was suspended as several meters tripped.
The Met Department has indicated that these weather patterns are likely to persist, bringing further relief to the region. As the rains continue, residents are enjoying the cooler temperatures and the pleasant change in weather, a welcome break from the usual summer heat.
