The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert for the possibility of heavy rains in various districts of Punjab from tonight.
The authority has advised people to exercise caution and take necessary precautions to safeguard themselves and their property.
Director General of PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, expressed concerns about the potential impact of heavy rains, especially during the upcoming Muharram processions. He urged procession organizers to prioritize safety by implementing strict weather-related measures.
“We anticipate heavy rainfall in various districts of Punjab from tonight,” said Kathia. “To avoid any unfortunate incidents, we strongly advise people to maintain a safe distance from electric poles and wires. It is also crucial to refrain from gathering on dilapidated roofs.”
Given the forecast, the PDMA has also issued a flood warning for mountainous areas of Dera Ghazi Khan. Residents living near river channels have been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary steps to protect their homes and belongings.
The rescue agencies have been placed on high alert, particularly on the 8th and 9th of Muharram, when the risk of flooding and other weather-related emergencies is expected to be higher.
