Khushab district witnessed a heartbreaking tragedy as 10 children drowned while bathing in the Chashma Jhelum Link canal. Local authorities and rescue teams immediately sprang into action, managing to rescue four children immediately.
Later, rescue officials managed to recover the bodies of three of the six missing children from the canal. Two of the bodies were identified as Waqas and Samiullah.
Two brothers are also among the victims, while according to the rescue officials, all those who drowned were said to be close relatives between the ages of 14 and 16.
The search for the remaining three bodies was underway, which is being assisted by Pakistan Navy teams as well.
The rescue operation, led by local teams and aided by special diving units, has been ongoing for hours with no further success in finding the remaining missing children.
Rescue in-charge Hafiz Abdul Rasheed expressed the challenges faced during the operation despite the deployment of special diving teams. "The efforts are ongoing to locate and retrieve the bodies of the remaining four children who are still missing," he stated.
The tragic incident has deeply affected the local community in Khushab, prompting an outpouring of grief and concern. Authorities continue to urge caution around water bodies, especially during monsoon seasons when water levels can rise swiftly, posing risks to bathers.
