Despite experiencing rain on Saturday, the residents of port city Karachi continue to endure intense heat. However, the Meteorological Department has predicted light rain for today, but the scorching temperatures are expected to persist.
According to the Meteorological department, the maximum temperature in Karachi is likely to reach 38 degrees Celsius today, with the heat index making it feel as hot as 40 degrees Celsius.
The ongoing heatwave is attributed to low pressure along the coast of Gujarat, which has suspended the cooling sea breezes that typically moderate the city's temperature.
"As long as there is low pressure in the sea, the heat will not decrease in the cities," a spokesperson from the Meteorological Department stated. However, there is some hope on the horizon. The department has indicated that the low-pressure system, referred to as the wind pressure, is expected to move towards Oman. Once this shift occurs, sea breezes are likely to resume, potentially bringing some relief from the intense heat.
Monsoon low is a seasonal low found over most continents in summer and, to a lesser extent, over adjacent ocean areas in winter.
The Meteorological Department predicts that sea breezes will likely resume from tomorrow, which may help in reducing the temperature slightly in the coming days. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
