The federal government’s Right Sizing Committee has prepared comprehensive recommendations for restructuring the Ministry of Information Technology (IT). This move aims to enhance efficiency and reduce dependence on federal funding.
Several institutions within the Ministry of IT are set to be affected by these changes. The Telecom Foundation, under the Ministry of IT, will be closed, with its subsidiaries slated for privatization.
A significant restructuring of the National IT Board has been recommended, including establishing partnerships with private service providers to improve efficiency through an external model.
One of the key recommendations is to increase the income of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) to Rs 1 billion, making it financially autonomous and less reliant on federal government support.
The committee has also directed the continuation of services for the Virtual University, Universal Service Fund, and ECC, while the Ignite initiative must address its failures and continue its work.
The Right Sizing Committee has urged the Ministry of IT to implement these recommendations promptly to ensure the effective functioning of its subordinate institutions and overall improvement in service delivery.
