Pakistan Tehereek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Aliya Hamza Malik has been released from Gujranwala Central Jail following an order from the Lahore High Court.
The Lahore High Court had intervened to prevent Aliya Hamza from being transferred from District Jail Gujranwala to another facility.
Justice Ali Baqer Najafi issued a written order during the hearing of Hamza Jamil’s petition, mandating that the government and the attorney’s office submit detailed comments and a report at the next hearing.
Hamza Jamil, Aliya Hamza’s husband, filed the petition, alleging that political cases were being unjustly registered against her. He stated that after she secured bail in one case, she was promptly nominated in another, suggesting a pattern of political persecution.
In response, the court ordered the provision of details regarding the registered cases against Aliya Hamza and granted her protective bail.
On Tuesday, the Lahore High Court barred shifting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Aliya Hamza to any other city from District Jail Gujranwala.
LHC judge Justice Ali Baqir Najafi delivered the written order during a hearing on the petition of the PTI leader’s husband Hamza Jameel.
The court ordered the Punjab government and Attorney's Office to present paragraph-wise comments and report on the next hearing.
Aliya Hamza’s husband filed a petition in court arguing that his wife faces multiple politically motivated cases. According to Jameel, Alia Hamza is repeatedly named in new cases each time she secures bail in existing ones.
In response to the petition, the court has been asked to furnish the details of all registered cases against Aliya Hamza. Additionally, the petition seeks an order for protective bail to ensure she is not unjustly imprisoned.
