Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PMLN) President and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed deep concern over the rising electricity bills, terming them unaffordable for the public.
During a consultative meeting held at the party secretariat in Model Town, Lahore, the deposed premier underscored the urgent need to alleviate the burden of high electricity costs on the masses.
The meeting, presided over by Nawaz Sharif, was attended by key party leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The agenda focused on finding immediate solutions to provide relief to the public, especially in the context of escalating electricity bills.
In his address, Nawaz Sharif highlighted the severe impact of the high bills on ordinary citizens, linking the current economic hardships to the policies of the previous government.
"The unbearable electricity bills are a direct consequence of the PTI government's economic mismanagement," he remarked. "The people are looking to us for relief, and it is our responsibility to deliver, even in these challenging times."
Nawaz Sharif further emphasized that the party's ability to navigate the nation out of economic crises would be tested once again.
"Just as we saved the country from default, we now face the equally daunting task of preventing the people from economic ruin," he added, pointing to the PML-N's historical resilience in times of adversity.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif briefed the party president on the government's national economic agenda, detailing the steps taken to address the country's financial woes.
He noted that a comprehensive plan had been devised to tackle the pressing issues, including temporary relief measures for electricity consumers.
According to the PM consumers using up to 200 units of electricity, both protected and non-protected categories, will receive relief for the next three months.
