In a significant step towards reforming the country’s energy sector, Pakistan has finalised the initial issues related to the privatisation of electricity distribution companies (Discos).
A high-level meeting, chaired by Federal Minister of Investment Board, Communications, and Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan, and attended by Federal Minister of Energy Owais Leghari, marked the progress.

Minister Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized the need for a phased and transparent privatization process, considering technical aspects to ensure a smooth transition. Energy Minister Owais Laghari stressed the importance of addressing institutional issues and providing access to necessary data for interested parties.

Advertisements for the privatization of Discos were released in international media on August 17, inviting potential bidders.
The authorities have been directed to complete all stages of the privatization process as per rules and regulations, ensuring a timely and efficient outcome.
This development is part of Pakistan's broader efforts to reform its energy sector, aiming to improve efficiency, reduce losses, and enhance service delivery. The privatization of Discos is expected to attract foreign investment, bring in new technologies, and benefit consumers.
