Indian music producer and rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh has disclosed his journey of learning about Islam, highlighting the profound influence of Sufi saints and religious scholars.
In a recent exclusive interview with an Indian journalist, Singh recounted his experiences from 2007 when he moved to Mohali, Punjab, a period before he gained widespread fame. At that time, Singh was an aspiring music producer with little recognition.
During his stay in Mohali, Singh had the chance to interact with various religious figures who introduced him to the fundamentals of Islam. Singh shared, “After moving to Mohali, I was introduced to Islam by these religious scholars. My initial curiosity grew into a deep interest as I sought answers to numerous questions I had about the religion.”
The singer elaborated on the knowledge he acquired from these figures, mentioning, “I learned about significant Islamic figures including Hazrat Musa, Hazrat Isa (Peace Be Upon Them), and Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). My learning included understanding the role of Hazrat Isa as described in the Quran.”
Singh emphasised his attentive listening to the scholars and his persistent inquiries about Islamic teachings. “I frequently asked questions like ‘Why is this so?’ and ‘How did this happen?’ and the scholars were always patient in answering my queries.”
Reflecting on his journey, Singh admitted that his life took a downturn after gaining fame and wealth post-2012. He confessed, “Instead of showing gratitude, I succumbed to negative influences, which I now recognize as my biggest mistake.”
The repercussions of his misguided choices affected his life, health, and career significantly. However, Singh made a comeback in 2018 and now professes a renewed faith. “After overcoming my challenges, I have re-focused on my belief in God,” he stated.
