Pakistan Railways has announced a 10% reduction in fares for all classes of its trains.
The reduction applies to both the AC classes of express and mail trains, as well as the economy classes of passenger trains.
According to an official notification issued by Pakistan Railways, the new fare structure will come into effect starting September 23. This move is part of the government's efforts to make train travel more affordable and accessible for the general public.
Recently, the railways department officially abolished 1,967 posts in its commercial department under the Railway Rationalization Plan, according to a notification. These positions, spread across major divisions, including Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan, Sukkur, Quetta, and Karachi, were considered closed upon the retirement of the current employees occupying them.
The decision is part of a broader effort to streamline operations within Pakistan Railways, ensuring greater efficiency and resource management.
