In the recent intra-party elections of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) held in Quetta, Senator Maulana Abdul Wasi has emerged victorious as the new Provincial Amir of Balochistan.
His rival, Hafiz Hamdullah, received only 453 votes compared to Maulana Wasi’s impressive total of 1,013 votes.
The elections took place in a private marriage hall and were overseen by the central convener, Maulana Ataul Haq Darwish. A total of 1,750 members from across Balochistan participated in the electoral process, showcasing a strong engagement from the party base.
In the contest for the position of General Secretary, Maulana Agha Mehmood Shah secured 1,065 votes, defeating Maulana Inayatullah Rudini, who received 401 votes.
Despite the electoral turnout, the event was marred by tensions, with supporters from both sides chanting slogans against one another. Members of Hafiz Hamdullah’s group accused the newly elected Provincial Amir of corruption, leading to accusations of malpractice during the elections.
The situation escalated to the point where a significant police presence was dispatched to the venue to maintain order and ensure the elections could proceed without further incident.
