Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed across Pakistan on Monday, March 31, 2025, following the completion of 29 days of Ramadan, the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council has said.
According to the council's Secretary General, Khalid Ijaz Mufti, the Shawwal crescent will be easily visible in most parts of the country on the evening of Sunday, March 30, 2025, provided the weather remains clear.
“The new moon will be born on Saturday, March 29, at 3:58 PM Pakistan time,” Mufti stated. By the time of sunset on Sunday, the age of the crescent will have exceeded 26 hours across the country, making it visible to the naked eye.
He further explained that for a moon to be sighted, it must be at least 18 hours old at sunset. “The age requirement will be comfortably met, as well as the essential difference between sunset and moonset, which should be at least 40 minutes. This condition will be fulfilled in different cities of Pakistan,” he added.
With the moonset occurring well after sunset, the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council expects no difficulties in confirming the sighting of the crescent, paving the way for Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations on March 31.
Official confirmation, however, will come from the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which is responsible for moon sighting announcements in the country.
The committee, led by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, is set to convene on March 30 to make the final decision.
Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, is one of the most significant Islamic festivals, celebrated with prayers, family gatherings, and festive meals.
