In response to the shocking murder of Javed Butt, brother-in-law of Teefi Butt, Lahore police authorities have constituted a panel of expert investigators to tackle the case.
The panel, approved by DIG Investigation Zeeshan Asghar, comprises two Superintendent of Police (SP) officers - Sadar Shahzad Rafiq Awan and Rana Zahid - and two Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) officers - Iftikhar Rasool and Ijaz Ahmad.
Javed Butt was tragically shot dead by unidentified assailants on Lahore’s Canal Road on Monday, with his sister, Teefi Butt’s wife, also injured in the firing and hospitalised.
The attack is suspected to be linked to the Ameer Balaj Tipu murder case, where Teefi Butt is accused, along with Gogi Butt.
The panel will begin investigating the case on Wednesday, aiming to unravel the mystery behind Javed Butt's murder.
Earlier, Police claimed that the main suspect responsible for the fatal shooting of Javed Butt, the brother-in-law of Khawaja Tareef Butt alias Teefi Butt, has been identified.
Sources say that a manhunt is underway to apprehend the motorcycle-borne shooter, identified as Azhar, a resident of Santnagar in Islampura.
According to police reports, Azhar allegedly hired a rickshaw from Wajihaul Hasan, a resident of Garhi Shahu, to execute the crime. On the day of the murder, Azhar parked the rickshaw at a stand in the Sandah area, before boarding a motorcycle to carry out the shooting.
Investigative teams traced the rickshaw and identified Azhar as the prime suspect. Raids have been conducted by special investigation teams at various locations in an effort to capture him. Despite intensive efforts, police have not yet succeeded in arresting the accused, but remain confident that his capture is imminent.
On September 2, a new twist transpired in the Ameer Balaj Tipu murder case wherein Javed Butt, a brother-in-law of Teefi Butt - the main suspect in the murder case, was gunned down in Lahore as assailants opened fire on him on the busy Canal Road.
Javed Butt's wife sustained injuries and was shifted to a hospital.
