Fifteen people have been killed, and five others injured in a firing incident in the Kanj Alizai area of Kurram district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the deputy commissioner.
The injured victims were immediately transferred to various hospitals for treatment, sources said.
According to the deputy commissioner, an exchange of fire has been going on since morning between Muqbal and Tori tribes in the Kanj Alizai area, wherein 15 people have died so far. The injured have been shifted to Parachinar hospital.
He said additional personnel of police and security forces are deployed in the area, adding that the situation remains tense. Steps are being taken to secure the traffic routes and bring the situation back to normal throughout the district.
Police claimed that investigations are underway to determine the circumstances behind the shooting that is said to have taken place near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The situation in the district remains tense, and security forces are working to restore calm in the area. The deputy commissioner assured the public that steps are being taken to bring the situation back to normal.
Former MNA and jirga member, Pir Haider Ali Shah, expressed sorrow over the unrest in Kurram district, calling the situation "tragic" and urging immediate action to prevent further violence.
