Concerns over Babar Azam’s recent poor form have led the National Selection Committee to consider resting the star batter ahead of the second Test match against England.
According to sources, the selectors are unhappy with Babar's continuous underperformance and have suggested that he take a break to regain his form.
The committee has also proposed resting pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi, particularly if the team opts to play two spinners in the upcoming Test. Sources indicate that the final playing XI may exclude Afridi as part of a strategic decision to adapt to the conditions.
However, there appears to be a divide within the team management. Head coach and captain are reportedly keen to keep Babar in the playing XI, showing faith in his ability to bounce back. The decision now lies in the hands of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is expected to make a final call later today.
The selectors are planning to meet with both Babar and Shaheen to offer them support and boost their confidence ahead of the crucial Test. As tensions rise, all eyes are on the PCB to see how they handle the situation as Pakistan looks to level the series against a formidable England side.
