Renowned Indian journalist Vikrant Gupta asked skipper Rohit Sharma to take up the responsibility in terms of scoring the runs in the red-ball format.
Expressing his thoughts during the second Test match between India and New Zealand in Pune, Gupta said: “No matter how successful or unsuccessful, big or small player you are, you got to perform.”
“Because the captain who is not getting runs is compelled to think about his batting form. This might also reflect his captaincy,” Gupta said.
“But on the other hand, when the captain is scoring runs, he is daring enough to take bold decisions that can reap benefits for his side,” he added.
Acknowledging New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner, Gupta said: “Mitchell Santner is a very dangerous bowler, especially on these conditions.”
Meanwhile, Santner played a remarkable role in containing the Indian batting powerhouse on 156 by picking up seven wickets.
