Gabriel Martinelli highlights Arsenal's renewed confidence after defeating reigning champion Manchester City, expressing their determination to surpass last season's performance.
Arsenal had been on the cusp of claiming their first Premier League title in nearly two decades during the 2022–23 season. However, Pep Guardiola's side managed to overtake them and secure a third consecutive title.
Nevertheless, the Gunners recently secured a significant victory against City in the league, marking their first triumph over the Manchester giants since 2015.
This victory followed their earlier success in the Community Shield shootout against the treble-winning side.
Martinelli, who returned as a substitute after a three-week absence due to a hamstring injury, delivered the decisive blow with a late winner that deflected off Nathan Ake, securing a 1-0 victory.
Reflecting on the win, the 22-year-old Brazilian international stated, "We know how hard it is to play against them. It was a great performance from the team and a great win."
He further emphasised the team's belief in their title aspirations, saying, "Of course, (it gives us more belief that we can win this season's title."We are Arsenal, and we always believe in the title. To win against a big side like them is great, and we just need to carry on."
Arsenal currently enjoys an eight-match unbeaten streak in the league and occupies the second position in the table, narrowly trailing Tottenham based on goal difference.
Martinelli stressed the importance of belief, stating, "When you play for Arsenal, you have to always believe, and this is what we do." The club is eager to capture their first Premier League title since 2004, with Martinelli expressing their commitment to continuous improvement, saying, "It's another year. We're going to try to improve things and try to do better than last year."
