Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Supremo Nawaz Sharif along with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz returned to Pakistan following an extended overseas trip that included stops in the UAE, the UK, the US, and Europe.
Nawaz Sharif, who departed Lahore on October 25, concluded his multi-country visit, which included meetings with various stakeholders in Dubai, London, the United States, and European nations. His return to Lahore marks the end of a comprehensive tour aimed at fulfilling political and diplomatic engagements.
Maryam Nawaz, who had left for Geneva on November 7, also completed her foreign trip. The Punjab CM travelled by private jet to Switzerland for a medical examination concerning her parathyroid health issues.
Following a brief stay in Geneva, Maryam Nawaz extended her visit with a subsequent trip to London before returning to Lahore via a special aircraft.
Before leaving London, Nawaz Sharif addressed the media, where he commented on the upcoming protest planned by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on November 24.
He dismissed the protest as an attempt to destabilise the country, expressing confidence that it would fail to derail Pakistan’s progress. "They will fail in their mission," he remarked, referring to PTI’s protest call.
Nawaz further criticized PTI and its leader Imran Khan, who remains imprisoned following his conviction. The former Prime Minister questioned what achievements Imran Khan could point to during his tenure to justify a nationwide protest.
"What Imran Khan has done during his tenure that people would take to the streets on his call? Tell me a single [development] project that he could proudly present as evidence of development during his tenure," Nawaz said.
In his remarks on Pakistan’s economic recovery, Nawaz Sharif asserted that the country was emerging from economic difficulties and was now on the path to prosperity.
However, he lamented that obstacles were still being created in the way of national progress. He emphasized that PTI’s actions had only harmed the country, and he called for accountability for their actions.
Nawaz’s comments came a day after he had criticised PTI for conspiring against him during his tenure, citing the involvement of Imran Khan, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, and former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Faiz Hameed in the alleged political manoeuvring against his government
