Islamabad International Airport is set to expand its parking and operational facilities for narrow-body aircraft by utilizing stands originally designed for wide-body aircraft, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has announced.
Currently, the airport operates six narrow-body aircraft bridges and one new wide-body aircraft bridge.
In the first phase of the project, three additional wide-body bridges have been repurposed for narrow-body aircraft operations.
The airport plans to add five more wide-body bridges for similar use soon, bringing the total to eight wide-body bridges supporting narrow-body aircraft.
The strategic move is aimed at meeting the rising demand for narrow-body aircraft operations while optimizing existing resources.
The PAA emphasized that the successful implementation of the project will not only improve aircraft turnaround times but also contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions.
