The payment of pensions to 5,500 railway pensioners has been stopped until they submit their verification certificates to banks, according to Pakistan Railways spokesperson.
The spokesperson said that Rs4.5 billion have been released for the payment of pension and salaries. But, the pension will not be released until the verification process is completed.
The spokesperson also said that there is no question of using the salary and pension funds in any other way.
He added that some 150,000 pensioners have received their pensions.
The official said that the payment of salaries and pension at Railways Headquarters will start by Monday.
The railway pensioners have been urged to submit their verification certificates to banks as soon as possible in order to receive their pension.
Earlier in May this year, banks had suspended the pensions of over 17,000 retired railway employees.
The retired railway employees' pensions were stopped because they failed to submit the necessary documentation.
Pakistan Railways spokesperson stated that the employees had not submitted their no-marriage and life certificates or verified their biometrics.
He advised the retired workers to submit their paperwork to have their pensions restored.
According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the documentation must be submitted twice a year, in March and September.
