Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President and chief organizer Maryam Nawaz’s son, Junaid Safdar, on Thursday confirmed that he and his wife had divorced.
On his Instagram story, Junaid wrote, "News about my divorce is true." He also requested the media to respect their privacy and hoped with this decision they "find our peace".
The couple got married on August 22, 2021, spanning across two locations in London and Pakistan. This decision was influenced by the presence of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, who is currently residing in self-exile in the British capital.
Ayesha Saif Khan is the daughter of Saifur Rehman, former chairman of the Ehtesaab Bureau during Nawaz Sharif's second tenure as the prime minister.
The nikah ceremony took place in the Lanesborough, an extravagant hotel on the Hyde Park Corner in Knightsbridge. The event was attended by Safdar's grandfather Nawaz, his uncle Hussain Nawaz, party member and former finance minister Ishaq Dar, and others.
The groom's parents, Maryam Nawaz and Muhammad Safdar, were unable to attend the wedding ceremony owing to their names being on the Exit Control List. Maryam Nawaz had announced her absence from the event through a tweet.
However, they were present during the ceremony via video call with their son. Maryam Nawaz also posted pictures of the ceremony on her Twitter account and blessed the couple.
