Pakistan Railways has introduced a revised ticket refund policy.
The new policy applies to both tickets purchased through the “Raabta” app and traditional Point of Sale (POS) counters, as confirmed by the national media on Sunday.
Under the updated guidelines, passengers who purchase tickets from railway POS can avail of a refund of up to 90% if they cancel their tickets at least 48 hours before the scheduled departure.
Cancellations made between 24 and 48 hours prior to the train’s departure will yield an 80% refund, while a 70% refund will be applicable for cancellations made within 24 hours of departure.
For last-minute cancellations, passengers will still be eligible for a 50% refund if the ticket is canceled within two hours of the train’s scheduled departure. Furthermore, if the train is delayed by six hours or more, passengers will be entitled to a full refund, regardless of when the cancellation is made.
Refund process for POS tickets
Passengers who have purchased tickets at POS counters must return to the same counter for refunds. To process the refund, they will need to submit the original ticket along with a copy of their ID card. Once this documentation is provided, a cancellation slip and refund will be issued.
For online ticket purchases
The new policy for online ticket purchases mirrors that of POS tickets. Refunds for online tickets must be processed through the same online platform used for the original payment.
According to the policy, no refunds will be issued after the train has departed. However, cancellations made within 90 minutes of the scheduled departure will still be eligible for a 50% refund.
This move by Pakistan Railways aims to enhance passenger satisfaction by offering more transparent and customer-friendly refund options, particularly in cases where unforeseen changes occur in travel plans.
