The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially announced that fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah had been ruled out of the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against England, scheduled ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy.
Bumrah’s absence created a void in India’s bowling attack, leading to the inclusion of Varun Chakravarthy in the national squad. The right-arm spinner joined the team in Nagpur and was set to bolster India’s bowling strength in the three-match series commencing on 6 February.
Chakravarthy, who delivered a remarkable performance in the recent T20 series by claiming 14 wickets, received the selectors’ nod as a replacement.
India’s squad for the series included captain Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, and Chakravarthy.
