Pakistan's nationwide crackdown on power theft has resulted in the recovery of Rs 146.64 billion since its initiation in September 2023, according to official figures released by authorities.
The ongoing campaign has led to the arrest of 115,280 individuals across the country for electricity theft, demonstrating the extensive scope of the enforcement operation. In the past week alone, authorities apprehended 174 individuals and recovered more than Rs 970 million.
The anti-power theft initiative forms part of broader government measures aimed at addressing the country's economic challenges and resolving the persistent energy crisis. Relevant agencies have stated their commitment to continuing enforcement actions until the complete elimination of power theft nationwide.
The campaign represents a significant effort to reduce losses in the power sector, which has been identified as a crucial factor affecting Pakistan's economic stability. The recovery of stolen electricity revenues is expected to contribute to the power sector's financial health and overall economic recovery efforts.
Authorities continue to maintain vigilance against electricity theft, with regular operations being conducted across various regions of the country. The campaign combines both enforcement actions and revenue recovery measures as part of a comprehensive strategy to address power sector losses.
