According to Indian media reports, details have emerged regarding the number of Indians deported from the United States over the past 15 years.
More than 100 illegal Indian immigrants were deported from the U.S. back to India. This development has sparked political controversy, with opposition parties criticizing the government’s stance on the issue.
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated on Thursday that such actions by U.S. authorities are not new. He revealed that since 2009, a total of 15,756 illegal Indian immigrants have been deported from the United States.
Jaishankar emphasized that deportations are part of a long-standing U.S. policy that applies globally and is not specifically targeted at India. He also stressed the importance of addressing illegal immigration and assured that discussions with U.S. officials are ongoing to ensure deported individuals are treated fairly.
Indian media reports indicate that the highest number of Indian deportations occurred in 2019, with 2,042 individuals sent back, followed by 1,889 deportations in 2020.
