Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah inaugurated the revamped Karachi stadium on Tuesday, ahead of the eagerly awaited tri-nation and Champions Trophy matches.
Representing President Asif Ali Zardari, CM Murad participated in the ceremony to mark the completion of the renovation, which had been carried out in record time.
Speaking during the inauguration, CM Murad extended his congratulations to the nation, expressing pride in the stadium’s swift refurbishment. He remarked, "The Sindh government is looking to make all-out efforts to uplift sports." The chief minister highlighted that the Sindh government had initiated the renovation work back in 2018.
The revamped stadium, now a symbol of modern infrastructure, welcomed players as Pakistan's national cricket team also showcased their Champions Trophy at the venue, similar to their earlier presentation at the Gaddafi Stadium.
Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah shared his thoughts on the new facility, acknowledging the improvements made to the Karachi stadium. He expressed hope that fans from Karachi would offer their full support to the Green Shirts during the upcoming match against South Africa in the tri-nation series.
Pakistan’s former captain, Babar Azam, also spoke at the event, saying, "We play for the sake of people’s love. We want the same support for the forthcoming tournament." Azam shared his concerns, adding, “I am having a complaint from the Karachites that they do not come to watch matches.”
