Minister of State for IT, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, has assured that efforts are underway to improve internet speed in Pakistan.
Speaking at a 5G seminar in Islamabad, she acknowledged the existing challenges in internet connectivity and the pressure on networks that sometimes cause disruptions.
Highlighting ongoing initiatives, the minister stated that Pakistan has already received one of the world’s largest submarine cables, which will soon be operational. She also indicated that more submarine cables could be introduced if necessary to further strengthen connectivity.
To enhance internet speed and digital infrastructure, Shaza Fatima announced that Pakistan will conduct a spectrum auction at the beginning of April. She emphasized the significance of 5G technology, noting that global GDP is expected to grow by $1.3 trillion due to 5G advancements by 2030.
Currently, Pakistan operates on a 274 MHz spectrum. The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving connectivity and ensuring that the country keeps pace with technological advancements.
The planned spectrum auction and submarine cable operations are expected to provide a significant boost to Pakistan’s digital landscape, enhancing user experience and supporting future economic growth.
