Pakistani opener Fakhar Zaman was forced to leave the field with a back injury during the very first over of the Champions Trophy match against New Zealand at National Stadium Karachi. The incident occurred while fielding during Shaheen Shah Afridi's opening over.
Zaman sustained the injury while attempting to save a boundary, successfully stopping the ball but falling near the boundary rope in the process. After returning the ball to his teammate, he immediately signalled for a substitute fielder.
The Pakistani batsman was seen clutching his lower back as he left the field, taking a brief rest by the advertising boards before being attended to by the team physiotherapist. He was subsequently escorted to the dressing room for further medical assessment.
The extent of Zaman's injury remains unclear at this time. Pakistan, who won the toss and elected to field first, will be hoping the injury isn't serious as they begin their Champions Trophy campaign.
