A love story that defies expectations has gone viral in Japan after 32-year-old Isamu Tomioka married 53-year-old Midori, the mother of his former classmate.
Their 21-year age gap and unconventional journey have captivated people across the country.
Isamu first saw Midori as a teenager at a parent-teacher meeting, where she attended as his classmate’s mother. Even back then, he thought she was beautiful.
Two decades later, Isamu met Midori again and was immediately drawn to her mature and dignified presence. Determined to win her over, he reached out to his former classmate to get closer to Midori.
Midori initially rejected his advances, believing their age gap made them incompatible. However, Isamu didn’t give up.
- He asked her out every day for a month after their first dinner.
- He took her to 40 illumination spots after learning she loved lights.
- He repeatedly expressed his love and commitment.
Family opposition & overcoming barriers
While Isamu’s parents had no objections, Midori’s family, especially her mother, was concerned about her dating a younger man.
Midori’s mother warned:
"You’re a grandmother now. After a broken marriage, think carefully before entering this unusual relationship."
Daughter’s support changed everything
Midori’s own daughter, Isamu’s former classmate, gave her blessing, telling her:
“If I’m the obstacle, don’t worry about me. Just think about your happiness, Mum.”
Grand gesture & a happy ending
To prove his dedication, Isamu bought a $255,000 house (38 million yen), showing Midori’s family that he was serious about their future.
In July 2024, the couple tied the knot with the blessings of both families, proving that love truly conquers all.
Their story, recently featured on the Japanese show "Newlyweds Welcome!", has inspired many, with social media users praising their determination and love.
