Hassan Nawaz, son of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has been declared a tax defaulter in the United Kingdom, with the British government imposing a £5.2 million fine on him.
According to a list published on the UK Revenue and Customs website, Hassan Nawaz failed to pay approximately £9.4 million in taxes for the period between April 5, 2015, and April 6, 2016.
The British tax authorities have also disclosed details of the case on an official government website, listing his residential address as Avenfield House, Park Lane.
Legal experts believe that despite Hassan Nawaz’s bankruptcy, the UK laws do not exempt tax defaulters from penalties, meaning the fine could still be recovered.
Media reports suggest that the British government is firm on enforcing tax laws, regardless of financial status.
